You are already using the BMC Remedy Action Request System as a  powerful workflow application for your business. However, Remedy offers only limited capabilities to present the available informations graphically and in a more comprehensive way.

Change Calendar, Resource Manager or Release Planner: You can deploy arXplain on broad range of tasks. arXplain is implemented in Java (TM Sun Microsystems) hence is independent of specific solutions and platforms. The visualization components can be integrated with homegrown ARS applications as well as out-of-the-box solutions. They work equally well in the Remedy user tool and in the Mid-Tier front end.

The arXplain Business Calendar provides an overview of time-based activities in your organization (as a Gantt diagram). It enables the display of past, present, and planned events as well as of milestones from various ARS tables in graphical calendar views.

 

• Events and milestones from one or more ARS tables can be displayed as colored bars along the time-axis in graphical calendar views.
• The time period to be displayed can be chosen either by entering start/end dates manually or by selecting any period from the date navigation controls.
• Days with events are highlighted in the date navigation controls.
• The displayed items can be filtered by configurable selection menus.
• The calendar view is seamlessly integrated into the ARS GUI, e.g. a double-click on a calendar entry directly opens the ARS form containing the underlying data.
• Business times can be indicated by background color (e.g. Monday – Friday 08:00 AM to 06:00 PM).
• New entries can be created directly from the calendar.

The arXplain Resource Manager component supports the time-based assignment of requests or tasks to your organization's resources (users or groups) within a calendar view. It displays the available resources and allows for the graphical allocation (via drag&drop) of tasks to resources with free capacities. The assigned tasks are displayed along the time-axis in lanes corresponding to the respective resources. Unassigned tasks can be selected from a pane besides the calendar control and dragged into the allocation area.

• Display, planning and scheduling of resources along the time-axis (Gantt chart).
• Presentation of resource allocations in different colors within the calendar field.
• Presentation of upcoming requests or tasks to be allocated in the selection pane.
• (Re-)scheduling and (re-)assignment of upcoming tasks by drag & drop.
• The Resource Manager also includes all features of the Business Calendar.

The arXplain Workload Manager component displays the current total usage ratio of a resource. It supports the assignment of requests or tasks to resources by drag&drop. In contrast to the Resource Manager it does not deal with time-based allocation but rather focuses on the workload balancing between different resources.

 

• Display of accumulated resource workloads as horizontal bars considering task-specific workload (e.g. Task 1: 3 hrs, Task 2: 24 hrs, Task 3…).
• Consideration of resource capacity (staff member A: available for booking orders 50 % of their working time).
• Display of tasks to be assigned in the selection pane.
• Task assignment by drag&drop. The workload bars are adjusted instantly.
• Switch over workload display from weighted (by resource capacity) to unweighted.
• Items to be displayed can be filtered by group, location or any configurable attributes.

The arXplain Release Planner component schedules and manages releases of various IT services. It supports the creation and management of multiple versions of a release plan and provides a built-in function for comparison between different versions.

 

• Display of current schedule for releases, dependencies, and milestones.
• Grouping of releases according to topics in rows (e.g. IT Service A, IT Service B…).
• Lifecycle management of your release plans.
• Versioning and historization of your release plans.
• Classification according to current, obsolete and draft release plans.
• Graphical comparison of different release plan versions.
• Release plans can be printed.

The Process Manager allows for the graphical modeling of ARS processes and task modules. During runtime, it allows you to visualize process progress. It even allows for task rearrangement and the creation of additional tasks in an already running process without changing the definition of the underlying process template.

• Process definition by activities, gateways, events, sub-processes and relations.
• Graphical design of sub-processes and task modules by drag & drop .
• Clear overview of process states by multi-color display of completed, currently active and future process steps.
• Graphical creation and adaptation of sub-processes (tasking) during runtime.
